Documents Required

- Two proofs of your new residential address
- One proof of your Social Security number
- Documents adding up to six points of ID
- A completed application form
- Payment for any fees
Two Proof of Address Documents
To prove your new residential address in New Jersey, you need any two of the following:
- A current utility bill from the last 90 days
- A bank or credit card statement from the last 60 days
- An original, unexpired lease or rental agreement
- A tax bill, statement, or receipt from the IRS or state tax office from the last year
- First-class mail from a government agency received in the last six months
- If you’re under 18, a statement from a parent or guardian confirming your address
Proof of Social Security Number
To verify your Social Security number, you will need one of these:
- Your original Social Security card
- A recent W-2 form or A recent pay stub showing your full Social Security number
- A 1099 form from the past year
Six Points of Identification (Total 6 Points Required)
You need documents totaling at least six points in New Jersey to prove your identity. Mix and match from primary and secondary documents:

Steps to Update Your Real ID Address Online
Following these steps to Update your Real ID address online in New Jersey;
- Go to the official New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) website. Sign in to your online NJ MVC account. If you don’t have one, create it using your personal information and a valid email address.
- After you log in, click on the “Change of Address” section in your dashboard.
- Enter your new address details: street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Double-check the information to make sure it’s correct before proceeding.
- Upload the required documents to prove your new address. These can be a utility bill, bank statement, or lease agreement. Ensure the documents are clear, easy to read, and dated within the past 60 days.
- If you want to update your voter registration address, select that option during the process. This will notify your county election officials of your new address.
- You can pay the fee for your Real ID address change using a credit or debit card. The fee is usually about $11.
- You will receive a confirmation email after you submit your request and payment. Your new Real ID with the updated address will arrive by mail within 7 to 10 business days.
If the online process is difficult, visit any nearby NJ MVC and update the NJ Real ID address.

Updating your Real ID address in person at a New Jersey MVC office is easy. Just follow these steps for a smooth experience:
Step 1: Schedule an Appointment
